Why we LOVE this product!
Animal Upon Animal is one of the best first games we know. The chunky wooden animals are lovely to handle, the rules are simple enough for a three-year-old, and the wobbly tower creates real suspense for everyone at the table.
It's a natural way to practice fine motor skills, patience and turn-taking, which are big wins at the preschool stage.
Two things to weigh: the compact version has smaller pieces than some editions, and toddlers may want to play with the animals rather than the game. Either way, it gets used.

HABA Animal Upon Animal is a wooden stacking game for 2 to 4 players: roll the die, then balance wooden animals like monkeys, penguins and sheep onto a wobbly tower that starts on a crocodile. This is the compact version.
What's inside
- 1 crocodile
- 4 each of toucans, sheep, snakes, monkeys, penguins, hedgehogs and lizards
- A wooden symbol die
- Game instructions
How it plays
Roll the die to stack one or two animals, extend the base, or have another player place one for you. If animals fall, you take some back. The first to stack all their animals wins. Games take about 15 minutes.
