Why we LOVE this product!
It's rare to find a genuine physics toy for four-year-olds, and that's what makes this one stand out. Each experiment ends with a machine that actually does something, a crane that lifts or a cable car that travels, so kids see a pulley or lever in action rather than just hearing the word.
The real screwdriver and wrench give it the feel of a proper workshop, and once the experiments are done the parts become an open-ended invention kit.
Two things to weigh: younger kids will need a grown-up for the first few builds, and it's a sizable piece to store. For a curious preschooler who loves tools, it's a brilliant early STEM gift.

SKU:
E3028
The Hape Junior Inventor Discovery Scientific Workbench is a 58-piece wooden workbench kit with more than 10 experiments that each build a working machine, such as a crane, cable car or mechanical grabber, to introduce kids from age 4 to simple physics.
What's inside
- A wooden workbench with a pegboard back and storage tray, about 37 x 45 x 25 cm
- Bolts, nuts, cap nuts, a triple-holed joint, pulleys, a cog, a handgrip, fan blades, a C-clamp, a hanger and a triangular box
- A screwdriver and a wrench
- A silicone belt, a bell, a frog, a gasket, two hands and a mask
- Instructions, plus Hape's free "Know how" app
How it works
Kids follow each experiment to assemble a new machine: a mechanical grabber, robot head, fan belt, crane, cable car, bell ringer, climbing frog, waving hand, sound maker and boom gate. Afterwards they can mix the parts to invent their own.
What kids learn
- Simple machines: pulleys, levers and drive belts
- Physics ideas: momentum, gravity and energy transfer
- Cause and effect: turning a handle and seeing what moves
- Fine motor skills: using a real screwdriver and wrench on bolts
Good to know before you buy
- Age: 4 and up.
- Materials: plywood and beechwood with plastic and silicone parts.
- Adult help: younger children will need help following the experiment steps at first.
- Value: $67.14 at Maisonette (on sale from $78.99 at the time of writing).
Who it's for
