Why we LOVE this product!
Oil pastels give kids bold, painterly color without water or brushes, and this kit includes the extras that make it easy to start: stencils, tape for crisp edges, and a frame to show off the results.
Forty sheets of paper means plenty of room to practice.
Two things to weigh: oil pastels smudge, so plan on some mess, and the palette knives are better for older kids.

The MEEDEN Soft Oil Pastel DIY Kit is a 90-piece set with 26 soft oil pastels, 40 sheets of oil pastel paper, stencils, palette knives and a 4-opening frame, so kids can make a finished piece of art and hang it.
What's inside
- 24 colored oil pastels and 2 white pastels
- 40 sheets of oil pastel paper
- 10 reusable stencils (flowers, numbers and patterns)
- 2 palette knives and 10 finger cots for blending
- 1 roll of masking tape
- 1 display frame with 4 openings
How it works
Tape the paper down for clean edges, draw and blend with the pastels, and use the palette knives to build texture. When a set of pieces is done, frame four of them together.
What kids learn
- Art techniques: layering, blending, scratching (sgraffito) and texture
- Color theory: mixing and shading with pastels
- Focus: a slow, absorbing activity
Good to know before you buy
- Age: MEEDEN doesn't publish an age. With palette knives included, we suggest 8 and up.
- Oil pastels are messy: the finger cots help, but expect smudges.
- Price: $39.95 at MEEDEN at the time of writing (on sale from $49.95).
Who it's for
