Why we LOVE this product!

Origami is a great skill for patience and spatial thinking, and Pokémon is the perfect hook to get kids to try it. Ten models from Pikachu to Snorlax gives a nice range from quick wins to trickier folds.

The finished pieces also make cute decorations and small gifts.

Two things to weigh: Barnes & Noble doesn't say how much paper is included, so plan on extra for practice, and some folds will need an adult's help at first.

Pokémon Origami: Fold Your Own Pokémon from Kanto to Paldea is an activity book from Pikachu Press with step-by-step instructions to fold Pikachu plus nine more Pokémon, one from each region.

What's inside

  • Instructions for 10 Pokémon: Pikachu plus one from each region, including Snorlax, Bidoof, Yamper and Lechonk
  • Step-by-step folding diagrams
  • The sample pages show printed paper to fold. Barnes & Noble doesn't say how many sheets are included.

How it works

Pick a Pokémon, follow the numbered folding steps, and finish with a small paper version of it. Start with the simpler models before the more detailed ones.

What kids learn

  • Spatial reasoning: picturing how a flat square becomes a 3D shape
  • Following diagrams: reading step-by-step visual instructions
  • Fine motor skills: precise folding and creasing
  • Patience: origami rewards careful, slow work

Good to know before you buy

  • Age: not listed by Barnes & Noble. We suggest 8 and up; younger kids can fold with an adult.
  • Format: paperback.
  • Spare paper helps: first attempts rarely go perfectly, so a pack of plain origami paper is useful for practice.
  • Price: $12.99 at Barnes & Noble at the time of writing.

Who it's for

Pokémon fans who like making things with their hands, and a good gateway into origami for kids who wouldn't pick up a plain origami book.

About

Barnes & Noble

Barnes & Noble traces its roots to 1873, when Charles M. Barnes began selling books from his home in Wheaton, Illinois. In 1917, his son William joined G. Clifford Noble in New York to establish Barnes & Noble. The company entered a new chapter in 1971, when bookseller Leonard Riggio acquired the Barnes & Noble name and flagship store, beginning a period of growth that would help shape the modern American bookstore.

Under Riggio's leadership, Barnes & Noble expanded across the country and introduced its distinctive superstore concept, bringing together an extensive selection of books with a welcoming atmosphere where customers could browse, discover new interests, and spend time exploring. The stores also expanded beyond books to include educational toys, games, music, and gifts.

Today, Barnes & Noble continues to connect readers and families with stories, ideas, and new discoveries through its bookstores and online shop. Its range extends from children's picture books and young adult fiction to puzzles, games, creative toys, and collectibles. By bringing reading together with opportunities for learning and play, Barnes & Noble remains a destination for families looking for inspiration, entertainment, and thoughtful gifts.
