Why we LOVE this product!
The box is the clever part: a wooden chest with drawers that keeps over 1000 supplies organized and comes out again for the next project, instead of a bag that ends up all over the floor.
It's open-ended, so kids decide what to make rather than following a single project.
Two things to weigh: it's a lot of money for craft supplies you could buy separately, and with no project instructions, kids who like step-by-step kits may need ideas to get started.
Description
SKU:
SPM026
The Sycomore My Craft Activity Box is a wooden carry box with drawers holding over 1000 craft supplies, from pom-poms, feathers and foam shapes to paints, stamps and tools, for open-ended art projects at home or in a classroom.
What's inside
Over 1000 pieces. Fat Brain Toys doesn't publish a full list; European sellers of the same Sycomore box list:
- Markers, colored pencils, paint, brushes and a palette
- Paper, pom-poms, feathers, pipe cleaners and foam stickers
- Dot stickers, rhinestones and sequins
- Wooden stamps and an ink pad
- Glue, masking tape, paper clips and clothes pegs
- Scissors, a ruler, an eraser and hole punches
- A hot glue gun
- A wooden storage box with drawers and a carry handle
How it works
There are no set projects: kids choose materials and make whatever they like, from cards and collages to pom-pom creatures. Everything goes back into the drawers afterwards, so the box doubles as a craft station.
What kids learn
- Creativity: planning and making something from open-ended materials
- Fine motor skills: cutting, gluing, threading and stamping
- Independence: choosing, setting up and tidying their own projects
Good to know before you buy
- Age: Fat Brain Toys lists 10 and up; some European sellers say 3 and up. We use the higher age because the box includes a hot glue gun, which younger kids should only use with an adult.
- Safety: small parts, not for children under 3.
- Size: 11.8 x 6.5 x 11 in., 4.4 lb.
- Stock: Fat Brain Toys showed it as back-ordered with a mid-November date when we checked, so check delivery dates if it's a gift.
- Price: $69.99 at Fat Brain Toys at the time of writing.
Who it's for
Crafty kids who always want more supplies, families who'd like one tidy place for them, and teachers or caregivers setting up a craft corner.

About
Fat Brain Toys
Fat Brain Toys was founded in 2002 by husband-and-wife team Mark and Karen Carson in Elkhorn, Nebraska. The idea grew out of a search for more toys to complement a magnetic construction set their son Adam received for his tenth birthday. Finding the selection online limited, the family saw an opportunity to help parents discover a wider variety of interesting, thoughtfully designed toys.
What began as a small home-based business grew into an established toy company with its own range of products, alongside toys selected from other innovative makers. Fat Brain Toys developed a reputation for offering alternatives to conventional mass-market toys, with an emphasis on products that encourage children to explore, experiment, build, and solve problems.
The company's philosophy centers on the idea that play can be both enjoyable and enriching. Its collection spans everything from early-learning toys and sensory playthings to construction sets, puzzles, and challenging games. Family involvement has remained part of its story, with the next generation contributing to product design and innovation.
Fat Brain Toys aims to make discovering great toys easier for families while encouraging children to develop curiosity, creativity, and confidence through play.
