Why we LOVE this product!
This is one of the most clever Hanukkah books we've seen: the book itself becomes the menorah, and a new little candle book comes out each night. It gives young kids something to look forward to all eight nights.
Kirkus called it an imaginative and inclusive take on Hanukkah, and the stories cover the full range of traditions, from latkes and dreidel to helping others.
Two things to weigh: the mini books are small and could go missing with toddlers around, and it's built for ages 4 to 8, so older kids may outgrow it quickly.

Eight Nights of Lights: A Celebration of Hanukkah, by Leslie Kimmelman and illustrated by Hilli Kushnir, is a storybook set that opens into a menorah. Nine candle-shaped mini books sit in the menorah, one for the shammash and one for each night, and each tells part of a family's Hanukkah.
What's inside
- A hardcover book that opens to form a menorah
- 9 candle-shaped mini books: the shammash and nights 1 to 8
- 72 pages in total, illustrated by Hilli Kushnir
How it works
Each night, pull out that night's candle book and read it together. Then flip it over to "light" the candle and put it back in the menorah. The stories follow Lena and her family as they light the menorah, play dreidel, make latkes, give gifts, help others and remember the Maccabees.
What kids learn
- Hanukkah traditions: blessings, foods, games and the story of the Maccabees
- Counting and sequence: one candle and one story a night
- Reading together: a short story that fits bedtime each night
- Inclusion: Kirkus notes a diverse cast and a nod to Sephardic heritage through Lena's Cuban grandmother

About
Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble traces its roots to 1873, when Charles M. Barnes began selling books from his home in Wheaton, Illinois. In 1917, his son William joined G. Clifford Noble in New York to establish Barnes & Noble. The company entered a new chapter in 1971, when bookseller Leonard Riggio acquired the Barnes & Noble name and flagship store, beginning a period of growth that would help shape the modern American bookstore.
Under Riggio's leadership, Barnes & Noble expanded across the country and introduced its distinctive superstore concept, bringing together an extensive selection of books with a welcoming atmosphere where customers could browse, discover new interests, and spend time exploring. The stores also expanded beyond books to include educational toys, games, music, and gifts.
Today, Barnes & Noble continues to connect readers and families with stories, ideas, and new discoveries through its bookstores and online shop. Its range extends from children's picture books and young adult fiction to puzzles, games, creative toys, and collectibles. By bringing reading together with opportunities for learning and play, Barnes & Noble remains a destination for families looking for inspiration, entertainment, and thoughtful gifts.
